Norma Jane Spalding

Norma Jane Spalding, Cole Camp, Missouri, passed away and into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday evening, July 16th, 2023, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia, Missouri. She was 86 years old. Norma Jane (Sestak) Spalding was born April 8th, 1937, near Henley, Missouri to Lloyd and Flora (Steenburgen) Sestak. Jane’s sisters, Dorothy Jo, two years older, and Carolyn Ruth, six years younger, rounded out the family household. Jane was educated at Spring Garden and Eugene Schools where she graduated in 1955. Jane enjoyed school and was a good student. She especially enjoyed music and art classes. Some of her best high school memories were of her experiences as a cheerleader, rooting for the Eugene Eagles ball teams. Jane married Kelan Spalding on December 2nd, 1955. Together, they had four children. Jeff, Craig, Joni, and Kip were the light of Jane’s life. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Flora; her step-father, Bill Hudson; brother-in-law, Wayne Looten; and daughter-in-law, Marisa Spalding (as well as beloved grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins}. Jane is survived by her sisters-Dorothy Looten of Columbia, Missouri and Carolyn Bates of Grapevine, Texas-and her four children-Jeff (and Connie) Spalding of Sedalia; Craig (and Debbie) Spalding of Concordia; Joni Spalding of Stover; and Kip (and Darla) Spalding of Miller; eight grandchildren-Amber Spalding, Amanda Shipp, Meagan Bail, Mallory Stull, Trevor Spalding, Haley Spalding, Shelby Spalding, and Conner Spalding-and five great-grandchildren-Olivia, Finnegan, Henry, Rosalind, and Will, as well as many beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins. Following many successful years as a homemaker, later in life Jane worked in the floral, retail, and childcare industries. During her final working years, Jane operated her own Gingerbread Daycare south of Jefferson City. Jane was well known for her artistic ability. She demonstrated her skills in multiple media, including floral arranging, painting, sketching, quilting, and crafting. Norma Jane Spalding was a faithful Christian all her long life. She enjoyed a strong personal relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jane prayed daily and treasured her reading and study of scripture. Among Jane Spalding’s organizational affiliations are her being a long-time member and officer of Eastern Star and her fun years as a part of the Sedalia branch of the Red Hat Society. Jane lived her final years as a resident at Ambrose Park and Good Samaritan facilities in Cole Camp, Missouri. Jane will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 30th, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
