Norlene R. "Cookie" Slavens

Norlene R. “Cookie” Slavens, of Sunrise Beach, passed away on her 92nd birthday, on January 3, 2025, at her home. She was born January 3, 1933, in Sumner, Missouri, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Emma (Thomas) Bowman. On September 7, 1950, she was united in marriage to Henry Dean Slavens, who preceded her in death. She managed Arnold Palmer Dry Cleaning for many years. Later, she worked as a cook at Dogwood, where she affectionately earned the nickname, Cookie. She enjoyed the friends and connections she made while working as a receptionist at the Hairport Inc. Salon, owned by her daughter, Vicky. Cookie was a member of the Lady Elks and attended The Door Church in Laurie. In her spare time, she enjoyed gambling and playing bingo with her friends. She also found joy in keeping up with the latest news on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce and also watching Steve Harvey on Family Feud. She is survived by her children, Sandy Doepke, Debbie Ross and husband Rick, Barbara Wood, Kenny Slavens and wife Debbie, Vicky Gustafson and husband Greg and Deanna Call; grandsons, Jeremy Slavens and wife Tammy, Jimmy Wood, Derrick Ross and wife Nicole Lipari, Ryan Gustafson and wife Brooke Anderson, Justin Gustafson and wife Sarah, Kenny Dean Slavens and wife Deann and Kenny Wayne Slavens and wife Niki; granddaughters, Erin Doepke, Jennifer Anderson and husband Nick, Brandy Delehant and significant other Lizzy Hernandez, Andrea Meador and husband Brandon, Caley Muse and husband Carey and Ashley Simpson and husband Brett; great-grandchildren, Henry Slavens, Skyla Wood, Cooper Gustafson, Memphis Simpson, Parker Simpson, Boston Slavens, Maddy Breshears, Brooks Slavens, Talley Easton, Ayden Easton, Kirsten Reid, Trent Reid, Lilliy Slavens, Mason Slavens, Trinity Delehant, Riley Meador, Cashmere Hernandez, Kobe Hernandez, Demi Wightman and husband Kenny and Wyatt Ross; great-great-grandchildren, Rylen Ross, Levi Ross, Maverick Wightman and Keegan Wightman; sister, Shirley Ware; sister-in-law, Pat Ferree; several nieces, nephews, many cousins and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Bowman; sister, Charlene Burr; sons-in-law, Greg Doepke, Greg Delehant and Larry Call and grandson, Ross Doepke. A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, January 25th, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel with Curt Liebl officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will be held in Garber Memorial Estates. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
