James Alvin Sidebottom

James “Alvin” Sidebottom, age 73, of Versailles, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013, at his home. He was born July 21, 1939, in Barnett, Missouri, a son of the late James Wesley and Molly Jane Hays Sidebottom. On April 2, 1960, in Miami, Oklahoma, he was united in marriage to Shirley Sattler Haggerman, who survives the home. James Alvin worked as a lead man, repairman and worked the extra board for General Motors until his retirement. He was a member of the Versailles First Assembly of God Church and was also a Royal Rangers Leader. James Alvin was an avid fisherman also owning his own lure business, Ozark Lures. He had a passion for music playing lead guitar at several area nursing homes including, Versailles, Stover and Tipton and also the Versailles Nutrition Site. He enjoyed the tomatoes he grew in his garden and also came to love the sports of football, basketball and baseball. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by his children, James Steven Sidebottom and wife Shelly of Versailles, Ginger Hughes and husband Ron of Independence and Neal Sidebottom and wife Tena of Versailles; ten grandchildren, Jeremy and wife Susie, Katrina, Emily, Jamee, Dalton and wife Hannah, Alexis, Gavin, Mandy, Shawn and Tara; four great-grandchildren, Thaddeus, Lilianna, Parker and Landon; brothers, Paul Sidebottom of North Bend, Oregon, Raymond Sidebottom and wife Janice of Barnett, Ronnie Sidebottom and wife Frances of Grain Valley and Herb Sidebottom and wife Peggy of Warsaw; sisters, Ruby Weaver of Blue Springs, Mary Hall of Versailles, Wilma Wasmer of Grain Valley, Naomi Wood of Pleasant Hill and Goldie Branstetter of Harrisonville; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Samuel Sidebottom, sisters, Margaret Wood and Esther Howser and a great-granddaughter, Sydni. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, April 7, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Kevin Howard officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Versailles. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, P.O. Box 26, Versailles, Missouri 65084 to assist the family with the purchase of a memorial headstone. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
