Deloris Elaine Unruh Koehn

Deloris Elaine Unruh Koehn was born to Dewey and Mabel Eck Unruh on December 10, 1932, at Copeland, Kansas. After enjoying a life of good health, until the last year and a half, she quietly passed away at home on January 29, 2008, reaching the age of 75 years. Mother spent her childhood years in western Kansas, receiving her formal education at Copeland, Durham amd Wallace. At the age of 14 she gave her heart to the Lord, later being baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on April 25, 1947 by Minister Herman J. Mininger. She held this faith precious in her heart keeping her vows until the end. Deloris was united in marriage to me, Richard Koehn, on March 25, 1951 at Wallace, Kansas, by Minister Ervin Nightengale. God blessed us with 56 years to share the joys and sorrows of life. We made our home at Wallace for 2 years where our first daughter was born. In 1953 we moved to Scott County. While there twin daughters and a son joined our family. In 1971 we felt led to move our family to Versailles, Missouri, becoming a part of the Beulah Congregation. Mother enjoyed being a homemaker and being sensitive to the needs and well-being of her family. She was a generous hostess, having many guests and family in their home. She loved taking care of her beautiful Irises in her garden. When times were hard she willingly helped by cleaning houses and a motel. She is remembered as being a Sunday School and Summer Vacation Bible School teacher. We will always cherish childhood memories of mother reading her Bible and singing hymns as she went about her homemaking responsibilities. Several months prior to her fast decline to her passing, she prayed to the Lord for an assurance of her soul’s salvation. The Lord granted her that blessed assurance with the hymn “I Want to Love Him More”. Left to cherish fond memories are her loving husband, Richard, who faithfully stood by her side; 3 daughters: Lois and husband Rodney Litwiller, Renita and husband Melvin Kurtz, Bonita and husband Mervin Kurtz. 1 son: Nolan Koehn and wife Irene. 15 grandchildren. 2 brothers: Waldo Unruh and wife Edrie, Dennis Unruh and wife Rachel, all of Versailles. 2 sister-in-laws: Judy and Husband Vernon Koehn of McPherson, Kansas; and Bonnie Koehn of Hutchison, Kansas. Also surviving are 2 aunts: Susanna Koehn of Montezuma, Kansas, Myrtle Koehn of Winton, California, and nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be at 10:15 Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Beulah Mennonite Church near Versailles with Ministers Melvin Koehn and Stanton Unruh officiating. Burial will be in the Beulah Church Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Lane Litwiller, Chris Lanpher, Evan Kurtz, Dylan Litwiller, Trevor Koehn, and Kendall Kurtz. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday February 1, 2008 at Beulah Mennonite Church near Versailles. Condolences may be sent online to www.kidwellgarber.com.
