William E. "Bill" Shortino Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

William E. “Bill” Shortino, age 88, of Laurie, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. He was born January 5, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri, a son of Joseph Ecker and Helen Galvin. He was a 1950 graduate of Cardinal Glennon High School in Kansas City. On June 18, 1955, in Kansas City, Missouri, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Diana (Watts) Shortino. Bill served as an ambulance driver in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a machinist and electrician for Armco/Sheffield Steel retiring in 1994 after forty years. Bill was a member of the American Legion Zack Wheat Post 624 in Sunrise Beach and the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time woodworking and being outdoors hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife, Diana, he is survived by his sons, William J. Shortino and wife Joyce of Boston, Massachusetts and John Shortino of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; daughters, Deborah West and husband Michael of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Catherine West and husband Greg of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Lalumia of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Ecker, his mother and adopted father, Helen and Joseph Shortino and his brother, Richard Shortino. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 2nd, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie with Father John Schmitz celebrating. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
