Roger E. Sinclair

June 29, 1945 - April 12, 2017

Roger E. Sinclair, age 71, of Laurie, left us peacefully while at home on April 12, 2017. He was born in Aurora, Illinois, on June 29, 1945, a son of the late Leman and Dora (Bottema) Sinclair. At the age of one, the family moved to a farm in Milan, Missouri, where he graduated high school. Roger started work at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City right out of high school where he met his wife, Vicki. They celebrated fifty years of a wonderful life on December 10, 2016. He served honorably in the United States Air Force Reserves during 1964-1970. Roger retired from Hallmark as manager of a graphic arts department in 2000. They moved full time to the lake at that time so Roger could live his dreams of fishing and building his house on the lake. He was an accomplished craftsman and loved building things, especially bird houses for his wife. Roger was an avid sportsman, both playing and watching. His high jump record stood for years at his high school. He was on a fast pitch softball team that won the Kansas City championship. He coached girls softball for years, loved playing horseshoes and bowling at the lake. While living at the lake, he also enjoyed visiting with his many friends at the Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705, in Laurie, where he had been a member for several years. Roger was a kind, gentle, caring man with a great laugh and will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife, Vicki; two daughters, Angie Jackson of San Diego, California and Tanya Holt of Independence, Missouri; two brothers, Carroll Sinclair and wife Judy and Russell Sinclair and wife Donna all of Laurie, Missouri; one sister, Shirley Stark and husband Galen of Harrisonville, Missouri; five grandchildren, Lexi, Jake, Paige, Blake and Austin; two great-granddaughters, Harper and Jacqueline; also many wonderful and loving nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-nephew, Stephan Sinclair. A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 17th, at the Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705 in Laurie with a luncheon to follow. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Elks Lodge or to Hospice Compassus. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.
