Mary Sue Rowland

December 6, 1936 - April 18, 2019

Mary Sue Rowland, age 82, of Stover, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2019, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover. She was born December 6, 1936, in Saline County, Missouri a daughter of the late James Russell and Edith Joyce (Randolph) Renno. Mary was united in marriage to Warren Whitney who preceded her in death. Later, she married Forrest “Skip” Rowland who also preceded her in death. She owned and operated Whitney’s Nursing Home for many years. After moving to Stover, she owned Bristol Manor for many years until her retirement. Mary loved raising her children and was always helping others. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, sewing and doing embroidery work. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Marshall and attended the United Pentecostal Church in Versailles. Her family would like to thank Golden Age Living Center for the compassion and care shown to Mary. She is survived by her children, Mary Scheil of Stover, Missouri, Marvin Whitney of Marshall, Missouri, Donna Langley of Stover, Missouri, Lucille Metcalfe and husband Ronald of Warsaw, Missouri, Gary Whitney and wife Janet of Stover, Missouri and Linda Estes and husband Tommy of Stover, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Renno of Kansas City, Missouri and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Ernie Whitney, Sr., two daughters, Joyce June Whitney and Ovilla Ann Whitney, brothers, James Edward Renno and Tommy Renno, a sister, June Starky, a son-in-law, David Scheil, daughter-in-law, Glenda “Jeanie” Whitney and a great-granddaughter, Kyla Rae Estes. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 22nd, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Stover Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
