LeRoy Bacon

October 28, 1938 - June 27, 2021

LeRoy Bacon, age 82, of Versailles, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born October 28, 1938, in Olean, Missouri, a son of the late Oliver and Jessie (Miller) Bacon. On November 7, 1956, in Eldon, he was united in marriage to Bertha D. Stone. At the time of her passing on February 25, 2019, they shared sixty-two years of marriage. LeRoy was a propane distributor and manager for forty-two years. Following his retirement, he worked at the Versailles High School as the groundskeeper. He served as the music minister at the Versailles First Baptist Church and was also the youth FTC sponsor. He was a member of the Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Versailles where he served as deacon of both churches. For many years, LeRoy served as president of the VHS Booster Club, president of the Versailles Park Board and president of the Versailles Optimist Club. He was also the Apple Festival Grand Marshal. Being an avid sports fan, he enjoyed playing slow pitch softball and coaching girls fast pitch softball. He also served on the VHS football chain gang. LeRoy looked forward to attending the state basketball games with his buddies each year. LeRoy enjoyed his coffee clubs and attending classic car shows. He loved each and every one of “B’s” kids over the many years. Most of all, he loved and enjoyed his grandchildren and watching and listening to their many activities. He is survived by his children, Greg Bacon of Versailles and Jodi (Joe) Lehman of Jefferson City; grandchildren, John (Danielle) Lehman of Jefferson City, Nick (Taylor) Bacon and Travis Bacon all of Marshfield and Joni Lehman of Jefferson City; great-granddaughters, Oliva Lehman and Emery and Nora Bacon; his sister, Addie Groose; daughter by choice, Judy Jo Hutchison and many friends. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice “Helen” Bacon, Oma Henley and Mary Baucom, three brothers, Miller Bacon, Kenneth Bacon and Grant Bacon and his granddaughter, Adrienne Bacon. A celebration of LeRoy's life will be held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, July 1st, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Gary Patterson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, Thursday, at the funeral home. Entombment will be at a later date in the Versailles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Southern Baptist Church or to the Versailles Park Board. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
