Larry Raymond Powell, age 78, passed away at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, Missouri on Friday, August 10, 2018. Larry was the born on September 29, 1939 to his parents, Raymond and Evelyn Powell. He grew up with his younger sisters and brothers on the family farm that was later designated as a Missouri Century Farm. As a young boy and teenager, he helped put up hay in the summer, cut wood in the fall, and he fixed many a fence to keep in the cows. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at the Ozark Chapel Methodist Church in Laurie. He continued to live at the home place after his Dad passed away in 1967, helping his Mother with the gardening, the cattle, the family store and service station. Larry was a graduate of Camdenton High School and after graduation trained in KC as a mechanic. He was the owner and operator of the Sunrise Service Station on Route F in Sunrise Beach, also owning a boat storage and towing service. Larry’s life was not always easy, he worked hard, yet he embraced the difficult changes and many challenges with an attitude of acceptance and enthusiasm. He had an infectious laugh and could remember many funny stories from his past to share with the family at celebrations and holidays. He adored his two cats, planted spring and summer flowers, enjoyed watching westerns and mystery tv shows, eating biscuits and ham or ice cream, and he loved to cook and made wonderful pies. He especially enjoyed walking and all of nature, particularly hunting morel mushrooms in the early spring. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Evelyn Powell and a brother Gene Powell. He is survived by his three sisters, Linda Waisner, Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Ann (Richard) Woods, Ozark, Missouri, Kathy (Rodney) Swope, Springfield, Missouri; two brothers, David (Bonita) Powell, Apple Valley, Minnesota, and Jerry Powell, Sunrise Beach, Missouri; and he will be fondly remembered as “Uncle Larry” to a host of nieces and nephews. He will be also be missed by many friends in the Sunrise Beach and Laurie communities. According to Larry’s wishes, no services or visitation is planned. The family held a private graveside service with interment in the Rockdale Cemetery. Donations in Larry’s memory may be made to the Ozarks Kat and K-9 Shelter. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
