Jay Maharg
June 13, 1926 - December 21, 2016
JAY MAHARG James (Jay) W. Maharg, our father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 21, at the age of 90. Jay was born June 13, 1926 in Jameson, Missouri to Crystal and Tom Maharg. Jay spent his last 18 months living where he wanted to live his entire life – Laurie Missouri, at the Lake of the Ozarks. Formerly of Gladstone Missouri, his love of the lake was ever present in his life. Jay served on the USS Eichenberger in WWII as a fireman for the US Navy, enlisting two days after graduating high school. The stories of his time on the ship were entertaining, as he only told of the fun he had; never of the tragedies of the war. He retired from UFCW Union Local Two as a meat cutter, having worked for Milgram’s, Safeway and several other grocery chains. After retirement, he couldn’t sit still, so he worked for a thrift store, at Liberty House and even went to theological college in his 70’s. He was a member of Barry Christian Church, serving as a Deacon for many years. Jay was married three times and had two children with his wife Bert: Kandy Maharg-Quesada (Victor) and James Phillip Maharg (deceased). He married Helen and they blended their families and had one of their own: Tammie Maharg-Harper (Rick), Linda Clemens-Dickens (Ray), Shirley Clemens-Calandra (Vince), Billy Clemens (deceased), Patt Clemens-Jacobs. Jay’s third marriage to Connie enlarged the family even more with Chris O’Banion (Rosie), Kyle O’Banion and Sherry O’Banion-Land (Jeff). Jay lived his life his way, loved as many as possible, and had fun while spending his time on earth. He loved to boat, fish, travel, and “stir the pot”. The family is sure that he will add entertainment in Heaven. Jay leaves behind a family that will miss him dearly. He is survived by his sister, Joan McNealy, 8 children, 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and even great-great-grandchildren. The family wishes thank Debbie Boone her outstanding service, friendship and love showered on Jay after his multiple strokes. We will be forever grateful for the staff at Laurie Care Center for their caring, compassion and excellent service. Jay was happy living there and made many friends. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider making a donation in Jay’s memory to Laurie Care Center, 610 Hwy O, Gravois Mills, MO 65037. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
