Gary Eldwood Jones
July 5, 1955 - January 30, 2022
Gary Eldwood Jones, age 66, of Versailles, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022, at his home. He was born July 5, 1955, in Kansas City, Missouri, a son of the late Newton E. “Pete” and Luella (Woods) Jones. On September 28, 1998, in Versailles, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Lea Stockton Jones. Gary drove a road grader for Morgan County before he chose a career in truck driving. He hauled livestock for Ferguson Trucking out of Sedalia. He also hauled grain for Baughman Feed Service in Mora, Missouri. There were many other companies and cattle buyers he hauled for over the lengthy truck driving career he loved. Gary worked hard and owned two of the trucks he drove. He took his “legendary” reputation as a truck driver very serious. “Jonesey” and his yellow Peterbilt were well known in the cattle and trucking industry across many of the states he traveled. He and Lea enjoyed traveling together for several years. He formed close friendships with many of the people he met over the road. Gary also had a passion for fast cars and racing. Most of all, he loved his family and the time he spent with them. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his wife, Lea, he is survived by his sons, Matthew Jones of Independence, Missouri, Brent Jones and wife Errin of Stover, Missouri and Cody Ray Jones of the home; his step-daughter, Rochelle Cookson of Howard, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Olivia Jones, Mason Cookson, Emelia Jones, Cooper Cookson, Sophia Jones, William Jones and Jameson Jones; brother, Eddie Jones and husband Jim Clement of Ft. Myers, Florida; sisters, Teresa Capps of Ft. Myers, Florida and Brenda Bright of Versailles, Missouri; his aunt, Mary Mae Pietrick of Chicago, Illinois; several nephews, cousins and many friends. A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 7th, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Robert Ross officiating.
