Fern (Cary) Bricka Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Fern Cary Bricka passed from this life to her eternal home on June 18, 2021, at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. Hazel Fern Draffen was born January 16, 1925, to Walter Wade and Nora Irene Barron Draffen near Bunceton, Missouri. She grew up in the Cotton community and attended school in Bunceton. She was married on October 25, 1941, to Samuel W. (Bud) Cary who preceded her in death on January 1, 1981. On June 10, 1985 she married Wayne Bricka who also preceded her in death. Having grown up with three brothers on a farm in rural Missouri, she had many stories to tell of those days and times at any and every opportunity. As the only daughter, she learned very early how to be a homemaker, including cooking, sewing, ironing, etc., which she passed on to her daughters. She managed her home and cared for her two older children while her husband served in WWII in the Philippines. She was saved and baptized at an early age and attended the Baptist Church. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Versailles. The Cary family moved from Tipton to Versailles in 1960. Her house was always open to the neighborhood kids and to those who came home with her children from school. She was in the height of her glory when the house was full, and there was always room for more. Every holiday was a celebration that will never be forgotten. She enjoyed sports, especially basketball, having played while in school. If the Missouri Tigers were playing, she was watching. She was also a NASCAR and PGA fan. She was always interested in what was going on in her childrens’ lives, as well as wanting to be involved in her grandkids’ lives and interests. She is survived by her son, Lyle Cary and wife, Ana, of Katy, Texas; three daughters, Marsha Patterson and husband, Gary, of Versailles, MO; Stacey Anderson and husband, Steve, of Laurie, MO; and Maida Graham and husband, Randy, of Eugene, MO. She has 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, with another due in September. She was preceded in death by children Linda Carole Cary and Ward DeWayne “Buddy” Cary; her parents, an infant sister, and brothers Ward, Gene and Walter Wade “Buck” Draffen, Jr. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 23rd at 11:00 a.m., also at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Versailles Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, Samaritan's Purse, Wounded Warriors, or charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
