Dorothy Ann Vanderhoof

December 26, 1933 - June 10, 2017

Dorothy Vanderhoof, age 83, of Laurie, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017, at her home. She was born on December 26th, 1933, in Cook County, Illinois to Byron and Viola Tuttle in the middle of a snow storm. She was raised during the Depression era along with her three brothers and three sisters. The family moved to northern Wisconsin where she finished high school as the valedictorian. She attended college at the University of Wisconsin campus in Minnesota and began teaching. She met Calvin M. Vanderhoof and fell in love. They married June 5th, 1954 and on the family farm began raising what ended up being a large family of twelve. They moved back to Illinois and finished raising eleven children into adulthood. This being one of her greatest achievements. Dorothy moved to Missouri in 2008, happy to be living on Carefree Lane, down the road from the Old Stone Church. Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughters, Leslie Ann and Mary Elizabeth, mother, Viola Tuttle, father, Byron Tuttle, the father of her children, Calvin, sister, Ellen and brothers, John and Richard Tuttle. Leaving behind ten children, Calvin, Linda (John) Schettko, Teresa Weiss, Viola (Hollis) Bensley, Rita Christie, Monica (Pat) Brice, Anita (Chris) Ferino, Mike (Dawn) Vanderhoof, Paul Vanderhoof, Harold (Bonnie) Vanderhoof also seventeen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren, sisters, Joan (Charles) Barnes and Sue Vanderhoof and brothers, Eddie Tuttle and Jimmy Tuttle. Her memory lives on at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie, Missouri, on the Mothers Wall section D block 5 Row 10. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 15th, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie with Father John Schmitz celebrating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the church. Graveside services and inurnment will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.
