Dixie Marie (Marriott) Akin, age 91, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away of natural causes on Monday, February 7, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born July 30, 1930, in Versailles, Missouri, the daughter of Leon and Alice Marriott. She was united in marriage to Ted Akin on June 11, 1946, in Kansas City, Kansas. Dixie was a homemaker, babysitter and Morgan County OATS bus driver for 29 years. Always with a smile on her face, she took pride in serving the community through her career with the OATS organization. Driving the bus each October in the Apple Festival parade was a highlight for her and her family. She was a member of the Versailles First Baptist Church and attended Red Bridge Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Dixie is survived by her son, Dean Akin (Patty) of Kearney, Missouri, her daughters, Donna Mickeletto (Leo) of Overland Park, Kansas and Lana Snurr (Dan) of Winter Garden, Florida, seven grandchildren, Lana’s Godson, Gery Gonzalez, fifteen great-grandchildren, numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Alice Marriott, husband, Ted Akin and brothers, Chester and Russell Marriott. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the Versailles First Baptist Church with Dr. Todd Forman officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, Saturday, at the church. Pallbearers are Nick Mickeletto, Ryan Akin, Justin Kirkman, Shelton Dray, Ben Anderson, Rob Cree and Gery Gonzalez. Honorary pallbearers are Julie Anderson, Erin Dray, Lindsay Cree and Kara Mickeletto. Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.
