William H. Lynch

William H. Lynch, Jr., age 86, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010, at the Mercy St. John’s Health System, in Springfield, Missouri. He was born February 15, 1924, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of the late William H., Sr. and Irma Davis Lynch. He was united in marriage on May 25, 1946, in, Missouri, to Jean Duncalf, who preceded him in death on March 23, 1996. Later, on September 27, 2003, in Hays, Kansas, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth J. Roberts Hamel, who survives of the home. He served from 1942 to 1945, during WWII, in the United States Army/Air Force, as a Tail Gunner. He attended the University of Missouri and Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. William worked from 1947 to 1984, for Iowa Electric Light and Power. He was a member of the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie. He was also a member of the 8th Air Force Historical Society, the 306th Bomb Group Association, a lifetime member of the VFW Post #5923 in Camdenton, a past member of the Hurricane Deck Lions Club where he was the recipient of the Melvin P. Jones Award, a past volunteer of the Hurricane Deck Elementary School, a past member of the Chamber of Commerce and Retail Bureau in Marion, Iowa, and past co-chairman of the Mount Mercy College Parents Council in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, he is survived by one daughter, Carole Scuphom and husband George of Bettendorf, Iowa; two step-sons, Kevin Hamel and wife Julie of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Steve Hamel and wife Jennie of Arvada, Colorado; five step-daughters, Cathy Allphin and husband Charles of Palco, Kansas, Joan Yowell and husband Paul of Athens, Texas, Chris Desbien and husband Larry of Damar, Kansas, Julie Speck and husband Mike of Dodge City, Kansas, and Amy Smith and husband Chris of Centennial, Colorado; one granddaughter, Stephanie Barquist and husband Brian; one great grandson, William Barquist; 21 step-grandchildren; and 22 step-great grandchildren. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 30, at the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church, in Laurie, Missouri, with Father Patrick Dolan officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church or the Hurricane Deck Lions Club. Expressions of sympathy may be left online at www.kidwellgarber.com.
