Wanda D. Smith Blair

Wanda D. Smith Blair, age 78, of Gravois Mills, Missouri, went gently & quietly to sleep in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ, Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at her home. She was born January 31, 1932, in Mexico, Missouri, the daughter of the late Enos and Lillian Gilmore Smith. On July 10, 1997, at the Golden Beach Community Church, she was united in marriage, and began a beautiful new life to her beloved husband, Charles Blair, who survives of the home. In addition to her husband, Charles Blair, she is survived by three sons, Robert Joseph West and wife Donna of Sedalia, Missouri, William Leroy West and wife Pam of Grain Valley, Missouri, and John Scott “Scottie” West of Sedalia, Missouri; two daughters, Linda Darlene Coats and husband Michael “Mikey” of Sedalia, Missouri, and Teresa “Poots” West-Dehling and husband Allan of Marshall, Missouri; one step-son Dennis Blair of Richmond, Missouri; three step-daughters, Peggy Kappelman and husband Jeff of Higginsville, Missouri, Jill Jones and husband Jon of Kansas City, Missouri, and Polly Feigly and husband Curtis of Kansas City, Missouri; numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother Devoy Smith and wife Ann of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters Betty Chevas of Tucson, Arizona, and Norma Walz and husband Don of Jackson, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Perry Smith, Dewey Smith, Gilmore Smith, Riley Smith, and Jack Smith; two sisters Louise Declue, and Mildred Paschel; and one brother-in-law, Bob Chevas. Mrs. Blair was a Deputy Sheriff for the Pettis County Sheriff's Department for many years, along with her daughter Linda Coats. Mrs. Blair was also a Communication Officer for the Sedalia Police Department. Wanda loved being in law enforcement, actually blazing a trail for women in law enforcement, as one of the first female law enforcement officers in Pettis County. She was an early member of the Missouri Case Squad, and a staunch participate in the Special Olympic torch run, dedicated to her son Scottie. Mrs.Blair had a passion for horses, gardening, her birds at the lake, and her Lord. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Golden Beach Community Church in Barnett, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at the church. Graveside and Interment will be at the Elmwood Cemetery in Mexico, Missouri at 3:30 p.m. ; with the pallbearers, Robert “Bob” West, William Leroy West, Aaron Wm. West, Mike Coats, Dennis Blair, Darren Lefeyers, Corey Lefeyers, and Jimmy Gant; and honorary pallbearers, Frank Lefeyers, Sheriff Emmett Fairfax, Ed Vaughan, Sgt. Lloyd Simons, Cendy Harrell Carson, B.J. Ream, Connie Koch, and Kathy Martin. Expressions of sympathy may be left online at www.kidwellgarber.com. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles. In lieu of flowers, Mrs.Blairs's ardent wishes were that donations be made in her name to either Golden Beach Community church for a specific charity, or for the Ewing Vocational Center in c/o Linda Coats, Sedalia, Missouri .
