Walter Kenneth Sinclair Sr.

Walter Kenneth Sinclair, Sr., age 83, of Barnett, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024, at his home. He was born July 5, 1940, in Springfield, Illinois, a son of the late Hollis Lee and Lucille E. (Powell) Sinclair. On September 10, 1965, in Shelby, Montana, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, JoAnne Hawkins. Walter was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in Vietnam in security police until his retirement after twenty years of service. Following his military retirement, he worked as an instructor in marine mechanics and small engines at Eldon Vo-Tech, retiring after twenty years. In his earlier years, he was a volunteer firefighter for the Golden Beach Fire Department. Walter was instrumental in the construction of the current Disabled American Veterans building in Jefferson City and served as commander there for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post in Springfield, Illinois and was chairman of Boy Scout Troop 30 and assisted in many campouts over the years. Walter was an accomplished musician and enjoyed blacksmithing and wood carving. In addition to his wife, JoAnne, he is survived by his children, Ken Sinclair and wife Stacey of Barnett, Missouri, Jenny Webb and husband Don of Hartville, Missouri, John Sinclair and wife Jennifer of Cecelia, Kentucky and Sam Sinclair and wife Sarah of Parkville, Missouri; grandchildren, Joe, Keegan, Tatum, Shae, Jason, William, Cameron, Henry, Emilia, Alan and Stella; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Edwin Sinclair and wife Peggy of Athens, Illinois, Robert Sinclair and wife Dee Dee of Boonville, Missouri and Danny Sinclair and wife Cindi of Barnett, Missouri; sisters, Ruth Sinclair of Springfield, Illinois, Barbara Skaggs of Petersburg, Illinois, Judy Betts of Boonville, Missouri and Martha Boerema and husband Jason of Colorado and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death a brother, Gary Sinclair and a sister, Linda Kelly. A celebration of Walter’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 13th, at the Golden Beach Community Center with Dan Sinclair officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the Community Center. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Golden Beach Community Church, Gravois Mills United Methodist Church or the Golden Beach Community Center. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
