Waldo Denzil Marriott

Waldo Denzil Marriott passed away on January 20, 2024. He was born in Versailles, Missouri to Speed and Lelia Marriott; their tenth and final child. The family worked diligently caring for the animals and crops on the homestead. The Marriott family were members of the First Baptist Church in Versailles. Waldo attended Versailles Elementary and High Schools. He loved to play basketball and the Versailles Tigers won many tournaments. In 1948, Waldo enlisted into the Army where he learned telephone installation in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Waldo was sent to Germany and went through Carrier and Repeater and Telephone Communications Schools. His love for basketball continued, playing on a team overseas. Waldo was discharged from the Army in 1952. Back in the United States, Waldo became an installer for the Western Electric Telephone Company. Adventures installing equipment were in California, New York, and Alaska. Climbing the ladder Waldo became an Orbit Supervisor for the Northern California District. He also owned a root beer stand. Waldo retired in 1984 but continued working a few more years for the Pac Tel Telephone Company. His favorite past times included bowling, golf, and woodworking where he built customized furniture for his home. He was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers and Golden State Warriors. Waldo was known for his genuine lovingkindness and sense of humor. Anyone who had the privilege to meet him was fortunate. Waldo is survived by his daughter: Denise; daughter-in-law, Liz; step-daughters, Donna and Lorraine; grandchildren, Shawn (Corrina), Stacy, Stephanie and Kellie; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kelsea, Dustin, Tyler, Jonathon, Emily, Austin, Mark, June, Jordyn, Justice, Brianna, Taylor and Ethan; great-great-grandchildren, Millie Rose, Mekko and Paige; his loyal dog Copper and his best friend and caregiver, Bernadette. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues. Waldo was preceded in death by his wife Helen, son Steve, step-son David, sons- in-law Bob and Ed, great-grandchildren Kayla and Tyler; parents Speed and Lelia Marriott; his brothers Ronald, Malcolm (Erma), Garland “Bo” (Margaret) and Creed (Nita); his sisters, Josephine, Dorine (John) Dames, Doris “Dutch” (Austin) Hautt, Bonnie (Leonard) Cole, and Laura “Larrie” (Al) Henning. The family will be holding a graveside service in the spring at the Versailles Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
