Randall Craig Calton

Randall (Randy) Craig Calton, age 71, of Versailles, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024, at his home. He was born March 10, 1953, in Jefferson City, a son of the late John Edward, Jr. and Laura Nell Alice (Hess) Calton. On October 8, 1994, he was united in marriage to Terry Lee Simpson, who preceded him in death on April 4, 2002. He is survived by his children, Kelly Lynn Calton, Jennifer LeeAnn Calton, Randall Travis Calton, Noah Craig Calton, Christopher Jon Calton, Stephen Dale Calton, and their mother Debra Stafford, all of Versailles; his sixteen cherished grandchildren; his siblings, Danny Calton, Darrel Calton, Dennis Calton, Denzil Calton, Mike Calton, Leora Dillon, Ella Mae Oyler, Kathy Beckner, Kay Anne Reithbaum and Robin Pottorff and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kerry Calton and his longtime companion, Janice Fitzgerald. Randy found great fulfillment in his long-standing career as a land surveyor. After marrying Terry, he played a significant role in management, as well as operating the meat department at Charlie’s Foods in Versailles. Employees at the store thought fondly of him, referring to him as “The Legend.” He enjoyed doing just about anything outdoors; hunting, rock finding and especially fishing with the grandkids. He was a big family man and never missed his weekly visits to his mother's house, where the family would gather to play cards and put puzzles together while laughing and sharing stories. In his childhood years he loved playing red rover with his siblings. The family bucked hay in the summer and cut wood in the winter, this was quality time spent with his dad and family. He could fix just about anything. He loved to help his children work on vehicles, mowers and their houses. Always teaching by not saying “that’s wrong” but with “well you could do it that way, or we could do it like this.” In his later years, he spent his free time watching football rooting for Dallas, reading western novels and watching cowboy shows. He made frequent trips with his nephew Eric out of town to visit family members and looked forward to attending concerts with his sisters and brother-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 19th, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Robert Ross officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
