Max Lee Middleton

Max Lee Middleton, age 71, of Versailles, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at his home. He was born on July 10, 1937, near Forsyth, Missouri, the son of the late James Dorsey and Oma Lzada Woods Middleton. Max was married to his childhood sweetheart, Lucy May Gideon, on September 29, 1957, and she survives of the home. Max grew up in Taney County, Missouri, where he learned to love and appreciate the outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman his entire life and loved to go hunting and fishing and he loved life in general. He joined the Air Force in 1955, and proudly served his country for four years. Max became a Missouri Conservation Agent in 1960, and worked in Morgan County from 1962 until 1981. He always had wonderful stories to share with everyone about his life experiences. He ran for the office of Morgan County Eastern District Commissioner in 1983, and served the county in that capacity until 1990. He retired to work at home on his farm, where he studied, researched, and created one of the largest Chestnut Orchards in the state of Missouri. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Mark and Bona Middleton of Versailles, Jim and Davida Middleton of Waterloo, Illinois, Lisa and Dwight Warnke of Rolla, Missouri; his grandchildren, Rebekkah and Gilbert Peralta of Everett, Washington, Deborah Middleton of Versailles, Wally Holloway of Waterloo, Illinois, Danny Holloway of Lawrence, Kansas, Tyler Middleton of Waterloo, Illinois, Laura and John Hornecker of Fulton, Missouri, Aimee Warnke of Rolla, Missouri; great-grandchild, Bethany Peralta of Everett, Washington, and Baby “Bean” on the way; sister-in-law, Shirley Middleton of Forsyth, Missouri; special niece, Jeanne Trujillo and husband Lonnie of Harrisonville, Missouri; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Newell Middleton in 1958, and James Dorsey in 1998. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 3, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Dr. Todd Forman officiating. Interment will follow in the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Morgan County Library.
