Marie Dooley

MARIE DOOLEY Marie Rose (Gromowsky) Dooley, age 86, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, passed away February 16, 2025 at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Missouri. She was born July 15, 1938 in St Joseph, Missouri, a daughter of Samuel and Alice (Abbott) Gromowsky. She graduated high school in Louisville, Kentucky where she lived with her cousin, Carleen (Abbott) Lawrence and later returned to Kansas City. She worked for Moore Business Forms and Mid-America Lumbermens Association (formerly Southwest Lumbermens Association), as a secretary. On August 18, 1973, she was united in marriage to Leroy Dooley; they shared fifty-one years of marriage. Together they had a son, John, that kept them on the run with various activities and sports. She also enjoyed being involved in the lives and families of her step-daughters Leana Bresnahan and Kari Larsen. In earlier years, she was interested in traveling and bowling. She very much looked forward to attending the yearly Gromowsky Family Reunion. She loved her pet cats Willie, Jaycee, and the multiple outdoor cats around the lake house. Marie was a member of the Lady Elks Lodge #2705 where she enjoyed playing cards, darts, shuffleboard and socializing. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and regularly attended St Patrick’s in Laurie, MO. In the past, she helped behind the scenes at the Sunrise Beach Little Theater and was a member of the Clown Group. Marie could always be found watching the Chiefs and Royals games when they were on. Survivors include her husband, Leroy Dooley; children, John Dooley (Michelle), Leana Bresnahan (Ken) and Kari Larsen (Arne); siblings, Ann Clark (Jim), Sam Gromowsky (Mary), Chuck Gromowsky (Rita) and Ike Gromowsky (Judy); grandchildren, Abigail Dooley, Kiersten Dooley, Jackson Dooley, Merritt Ware, Lauren Bresnahan, Kailyn Martoccio, Theresa Larsen, Heidi Larsen, Evan Larsen and Tori Larsen; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Bill Gromowsky (Kathryn) and Robert Gromowsky (infant). A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Osage Community Elks Lodge #2705 Christmas Basket Program.
