Janice Ione (Loftis) Trotter

Janice Ione (Loftis) Trotter, of Versailles, Missouri, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born April 6, 1927, in Herman, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Floyd and Florence Loftis. She graduated from Herman High School in Herman, Nebraska, in 1944. On August 13, 1945, she married Roy E. Trotter of Herman, Nebraska. To this union, four children were born; Suzanne Jo Grooms of Stover, Missouri, Dianne Jean Trotter of Versailles, Missouri, Beverly Kay Schmidt of Kimberling City, Missouri, and Steven Roy Trotter of Versailles, Missouri. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Clara Bell Loftis, and a brother, Reverend Marlon Loftis. In addition to her husband, Roy, and her children, she is survived by her brother, Reverend Gene Loftis of Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters, Reverend Shirley Ann Schmidt of Arlington, Nebraska and Iva Mae Johnson of Blair, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Janice was a faithful member of the Baptist Church and later the Methodist Church. She also helped in organizing a school for handicapped children in Columbus, Nebraska, where she transported and taught children at Platte Valley Association for Retarded Children. She moved to a farm north of Versailles from Osceola, Nebraska, and worked as secretary in the Morgan County R-II School System. Seeing a need for, and encouraged by school officials, she started a program for the handicapped, which is now Quality Industries in Versailles. Her daughter, Dianne Trotter was transferred from Nebraska to Versailles to work at Quality Industries. In retirement, Janice enjoyed several extended summer trips to Alaska with Roy and spent several winters with Roy in Port O’Conner, Texas. While Roy fished, Janice spent her time doing the things she loved; painting landscapes, reading, playing cards, and walking on the beach and beachcombing. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 12, at the Glensted United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Adkison officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Glensted Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., Thursday, at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Glensted United Methodist Church or to Quality Industries. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
