Gail Hull

GAIL HULL Raymond “Gail” Hull, 85, of Sunrise Beach, MO, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, April 17, 2023. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 24, 2023 at Johnson County Memorial Gardens in Overland Park, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Lake Regional Hospice, 54 Hospital Drive, Osage Beach, MO 65065. Gail was born February 11, 1938 on a farm in Benedict, KS and was one of four children born to Karl and Mabel Hull. Right out of high school, he worked as a furniture upholster in Merriam, KS for 5 years. His profession after that was an insurance agent for Farmers for 26 years then took the initiative to become an independent insurance agent for 35 plus years. In 1975 he acquired a liquor store in downtown Overland Park, KS, selling it in 1980 which still exists today with new owners. Gail was preceded in death by his parents, Karl & Mabel Hull and sibling, Karl Phillip Hull. Gail was married to the love of his life, Marilyn, for 42 years. He is survived by his brother, Byron Hull (Sarah) of Leawood, KS; sister, Laurel Decker (Bob) of Middleton, MA; sons, David of Lake Ozark, MO and Michael of Raytown, MO; stepchildren, David Drake (Kathy), Terre Drake Gruetze, Janet Pennington (Gary) and Chris Bock; twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Gail was passionate about flying and acquired his private pilot license with an instrument rating. He and his wife flew back and forth to Lake of the Ozark where they eventually retired. They enjoyed boating on their cruiser, the Marigail, with friends and family. They previously lived in Miami County, KS where Gail enjoyed serving in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff for 21 years for the Miami County Sheriff’s Office. He also served 10 years as a deputy sheriff with the Johnson County, KS Sheriff’s Dept. He loved policing!! While in Miami County, KS he sat for 3 years on the Miami County Parks & Recreation Board and served as Chairman of the Miami County, KS Zoning Board. Gail and his wife enjoyed RVing during the summer months and winters were spent in Mission, TX. He enjoyed playing spider solitaire, gin rummy and shooting countless games of pool. A special thank you to the care he received from Lake Regional Hospice. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
