Ellis L. Clark

Ellis L. Clark, age 89, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Laurie Care Center. He was born October 14, 1936, in Gower, Missouri, a son of the late Jewel and Mildred Frances (Culp) Clark. On April 2, 1960, in St. Joseph, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Nancy Jean Feldman. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before her passing on July 20, 2020. In 1964, Ellis and Nancy moved to Hiawatha, Kansas and purchased Hiawatha Ford. They owned and operated the business for 50 years. Ellis was an avid KU fan and was a proud supporter through the Wheel Club. He provided cars for the teams and traveled with them to many sporting events making lifelong friendships over many years. In 1989, they bought Purvis Beach Resort in Sunrise Beach. They owned and operated it for many years and is also a place their family currently calls home. From 1994 to 1996, they volunteered with VOCA (Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance). They traveled to Bulgaria and Ukraine, providing financial planning to new businesses starting up, primarily agriculture related. They enjoyed this time and the many connections they made. In addition to being a KU fan, he was also a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. He especially loved playing golf as well as snow skiing and water skiing. His love of adventure also took him around the world where he and Nancy enjoyed traveling, experiencing new places and making lasting memories along the way. Ellis was a longtime member of the West Lake Christian Church in Laurie. He is survived by his children, Lisa Jean Clark of the home and Larry Clark and wife Darlene of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Robyn Clark of Hiawatha, Kansas; grandsons, Adam Sudduth and wife Heather and Lance Clark, Jr.; granddaughters, Ashley Sudduth, Haley Heinz, Melody Gnagi and Geri Anne Gnagi; great-grandsons, Colter Norton and Gottleib Heinz; great-granddaughter, Lorelei Heinz and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Don R. Clark and his wife Shirley, a son, Lance Clark, Sr. and a grandson, Zachary Gnagi. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 21st, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel with Pastor J.D. Montgomery officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in Garber Memorial Estates. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
