Earl Stewart Pickeral

Earl Stewart Pickeral, age 84, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. He was born June 26, 1942, in Sycamore, Virginia, son of the late Early Moncess and May Elliott (Neville) Pickeral. On February 8, 1964, he was united in marriage to his surviving wife, Gloria Jean (Snyder) Pickeral. Earl proudly served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1966 as a tank mechanic, stationed all over the world including Germany and Korea. In addition to his wife, Gloria, he is survived by his daughters, Angelia Dawn Pickeral Mansfield and husband John Charles Mansfield of Windsor, Missouri and Christinna Lynn Pickeral of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Rosie Staniforth Pickeral of Versailles, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren, Angelia Fogle, Lila Scherler, Gabrielle Davidson, Lacy Zurmiller, Rodney “Sonny” Pickeral, Jr., Clifford Pickeral, Jessica White, Douglas Kalina, Jr., Robert “Bobby” Elliott, Ashli Elliott, Amber Reeves, Alayna Moss, Leslie Chambers and Michelle Staniforth; twenty great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Jane Pickeral Hiatt and husband Garland “Butch” Hiatt of Gretna, Virginia; nephews and niece, Stacy Clay Pickeral, Marty Ray Pickeral, Jerry Hiatt, James Hiatt and Gretchen Hiatt Estep all of Gretna, Virginia and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Andrew Pickeral and brother, Stanley Clay Pickeral. Memories from his granddaughters: “The conversation never ran dry with Earl. He had so many stories and always had something to say. He taught me so much about the things he loved whether that was fishing, his yard toys, feeding the wildlife or just as simple as gardening, he made sure to teach and include me every time. He loved to just sit and chat and watch the animals with the people he loved most. He had such a bond with the wildlife, he was an animal lover. Every time a fish jumps in the water, a seed has sprouted or the deer comes up to the yard, I will remember the lessons he taught me and the great conversations we had about anything and everything. He was a man you can never forget.” “Papa has always loved music, the outdoors and his family whether it was learning the Irish flute or the banjo, taking us grandkids on nature walks to pick wild berries and teach us about the different plants and animals, playing the guitar, building us a treehouse, talking our ears off about anything and everything and the list just goes on. He will be greatly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to call him Papa.” Psalm 1:3 ~ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Graveside services and inurnment with full military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 8th, at the Holst Cemetery in Gravois Mills. Following the graveside service, a celebration of Earl’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Sunrise Beach. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
