Donna Sue Slagle

Donna Sue Slagle, age 76, of Versailles, passed away Monday, August 26, 2013, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born February 12, 1937, in Fortuna, Missouri, a daughter of the late Edgar and Mary Josephine (Hamilton) Hutchison. On June 29, 1958, she was united in marriage to Uel Chasteen, Jr. who preceded her in death on January 11, 1988. Donna was later united in marriage on February 14, 2005, in Versailles, to Dexter Slagle, who survives the home. Donna owned Washburn and Chasteen Insurance Agency in Versailles, owned and operated Gambles in Versailles with her husband Uel for several years and also served as clerk of Morgan County for 12 years. She was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church where she was active in United Methodist Women. She was also a member of Rolling Hills Country Club in Versailles, where she shot a hole in one on hole #8 on May 8, 2012. Donna was a charter member of the Versailles Saddle Club and also a member of the Morgan County Democratic Club. Donna enjoyed riding horses, playing golf and was an avid sports fan. She also loved a good card game or board game and was known for bending the rules a little just so she could win. In addition to her husband, Dexter, she is survived by her son, Bert Chasteen and wife Cindy of Columbia, Missouri; daughter, Barbara Laughlin and husband Johnny of Vienna, Missouri; grandchildren, Justin, Josie, Jake, Casey, Brady and Tory; brother, David Hutchison of Boonville, Missouri; sisters, Velma Jones of Independence, Missouri, Betty Huffman and husband Aubrey of Versailles, Missouri and Alta Chipley and husband John of Boonville, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Hutchison, Leo Hutchison, W.D. Hutchison, Elvin Hutchison, James Hutchison and two infant brothers. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 30th, at the Versailles United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Adkison officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Versailles United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles.
