Donald C. Marriott

Donald C. Marriott, age 87, of Versailles, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2007, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born September 29, 1919, south of Stover, the son of Wesley Martin and Vanity May Ziegel Marriott. On October 21, 1939, at the First Baptist Church parsonage in Versailles, he was united in marriage with Eva Elsie Caywood. Donald and Elsie were baptized together on September 24, 1950, after both previously making professions of faith. They helped organize the Gravois Mills Baptist Church and were charter members there, later moving their membership to Calvary Baptist Church in Versailles. Donald was a WWII Army veteran, serving his country in the 21st Infantry of the 24th Division in the South Pacific. Through the years, Donald worked as a bus driver and custodian for Gravois Mills School District, was a farmer and Star Route mail carrier. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and fishing. He is survived by his children, Linda Lou Beckmann and husband Ed, Donald Eugene Marriott and wife Joyce, William Wesley Marriott and wife Kathy, and Diane Kay Webb and husband Dinzel, all of Versailles; two brothers, Delmon Marriott and wife Waneta and Calvin Marriott and wife Mary; thirteen grandchildren, Terri Merriott and husband Matt, Brent Beckmann and wife Jessica, Don Marriott and wife Kaslyn, Ron, Tim, and Alicia Marriott, Michelle Niermeyer and husband Russell, Ryan Marriott and wife Missy, Jennifer Bentch and husband Jeremiah, Brandon Marriott, Stephanie Rowlins and husband Seth, and Travis and Derek Webb; twelve great-grandchildren, Megan, Clinton and Chelsea Merriott, Caroline and Jalen Beckmann, Kade and Kresten Marriott, KoriJo and Alan Niermeyer, Joscelyn Marriott, Breckin and Arwyn Eva Bentch; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Elsie of 66 years on April 11, 2006, one brother Arnold Marriott, and two sisters Ruby Fay Marriott and Margaret Viebrock. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Versailles. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 2, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Entombment will be in the Marriott Mausoleum in the Versailles Cemetery.
