Dennis E. Havel

Dennis Eugene Havel, age 73, passed away February 29, 2024. He was born March 13, 1950, to Harvey Eugene Havel and Goldie Irene (McCollum) Havel in Valley Junction (West Des Moines), Iowa. He graduated from Valley High School and continued on to graduate from Colorado State University. He loved his time in Fort Collins, Colorado – when he wasn’t studying you would find him on the slopes. He had a rewarding career for 25 years at US West as a telephone technician. His time at US West resulted in a lot of hard work but also so many great friendships that he maintained after retiring in 2003. Growing up, Dennis loved playing baseball with his dad coaching. As many little leaguers of the 50’s, he was enamored with Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Roger Maris of the NY Yankees. His love of baseball continued through many all-star seasons for Valley and fast pitch softball, well into his 40’s. Dennis had a great love of the lake, being involved with the Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705 and so many interests – baseball, boating, woodworking and cooking just to name a few. He served in many positions and roles within the Elks in Laurie over the last twenty years. His greatest loves were his partner and wife of 38 years, Linda, family, friends and their many schnauzers. As an only child, his beloved maternal cousins were his siblings and constant companions. He enjoyed traveling the world with Linda and fulfilling his childhood dream to one day be a Yankees season ticket holder. In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by his daughters, Cari McDaniel and husband Dennis and Melissa Parisho; grandsons, Aaiden Parisho and Zayne Parisho; maternal cousins, Shelly Moyer, Mary Kinney and husband Dennis, Debbie Davis and Megan Waldron; brother-in-law, Alan McBride and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Eugene and Goldie Irene Havel and cousins, Mike Waldron, Robert Waldron, Jr. and Justin Waldron. Dennis was an amazing host and a generous, compassionate and giving soul. He will always be the Captain of his boat, even though he was unable to swim. He will forever be pulling the girls around the cove on their skis; the Santa of the Lady Elks Christmas program with his fun hats and his white beard and working at the lake in his bibs. He will be so missed by so many – cheers Dennis, until we see you again. A celebration of Dennis' life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 9th, at the Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705 in Laurie. Memorial contributions are suggested to Autism Speaks or to the Elks Lodge. Cremation arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
