David Carlton Gilbert Jr.

David Carlton Gilbert, Jr., age 51, of Camdenton, passed away August 22, 2013, at his home. He was born May 30, 1962, in Emporia, Kansas the son of David Carlton Gilbert and Karen Sall Gilbert. He graduated from Ruskin High School (Kansas City, MO) in 1980, and went on to join the United States Air Force. In the service, David attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and served as Personnel Specialist for seven years. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal as well as several other various ribbons and medals. David had been employed with St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie for the last nine years as a groundskeeper. He took great pride in his work and often said he served the Lord 5 days a week and took him home on the weekend. David was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed attending the games and keeping track of team statistics. When baseball season ended, David moved to football and cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs. He loved music and enjoyed listening to his collection of CD’s. David enjoyed spending his time fishing, hunting, and was fascinated with technology, playing video games, using his computer and watching movies. He is survived by his son, Cory David Gilbert of Palm Springs, California; his mother, Karen Hendrickson (Darold) of Fontana, Kansas; his step-father, Michael Riordan of Grain Valley, Missouri; sisters, Katie Guhr (David) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Meg Marshall (Scott) of Lake Winnebago, Missouri; brother, Colin Riordan (Melissa) of Grain Valley, Missouri; eight nieces and nephews; and his adopted family at St. Patrick Catholic Church, especially Brett Nevins and Jim and Sharon Nevins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Louise and Walter Sall and his uncles, John W. Sall and Joseph G. Sall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 27th, at the Historic St. Patrick Catholic Church located on Highway O in Laurie with Father Patrick Dolan officiating. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Patrick Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel.
