Sam N. Stringer, age 77, of Gravois Mills, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2010, at the Laurie Care Center. He was born January 21, 1933, in Versailles, Missouri, the son of the late Clarence Stringer and Mary Francis Nevis Stringer.
He grew up in Versailles, Missouri and server in the United States Army. Upon returning from Korea, he married Carol Kennard in Kansas City, Missouri on November 23, 1995. Sam worked at Sunshine Biscuit Company, Champion Building Products and retired from Georgia Pacific in 1955. Sam spent time on his hobbies of restoring old cars and woodworking. He and Carol, who were married 54 years, loved going to auctions where he would buy trash and turn it into treasure.
Sam is survived by his wife Carol and children; Teresa (Terri) and her husband Todd Turner of Kearney, Missouri, Dan Stringer and wife Nancy of Smithville, Missouri, Connie Kanatzar and husband Mark of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jason Ross and wife Janet of Kearney, Missouri, Kelley Huonker of St. Louis, Missouri, and Brooke Turner of Dearborn, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Paige Ross and Taylor Ross both of Kearney, Missouri; two sisters, Rosina Jenks and Virginia Newman.
Sam will be remembered for his generous sprit, his storytelling and his love for his family.
The funeral services are Monday, March 1, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Graveside survives will be on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at 1:00 p.m., at the Prairie Ridge Cemetery in Polo, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Staff Animal Rescue.
